Mom's New Bag
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 This Mother's day would be the first Mother's day that my mom and I would not be together. So I knew that I wanted to make something extra special to make up for it! My mom loves purple and birds, I dug deep into my fabric stash and found some pieces that were just perfect. At first, I thought I'd make a little zipper pouch for pencils/make-up etc. But on second thought, she wouldn't use that very much. As I began sewing, the front block quickly became much bigger than I anticipated, but it would make a perfect size shoulder bag. What I love about this project is I didn't have a clear vision when I began. It changed throughout the process. Mom instantly fell in love with it and she is going to use it as her knitting bag. She takes knitting with her everywhere, so she'll be able to take a little piece of me around with her too. ;)
What I'm really proud of is this is the first time I've made a bag without a pattern. It isn't as hard as it looks! Once you've made a few bags and understand the process. It's easy to improvise and make your own. I did mess up on the zipper the first time, but after ripping it out, second time was the charm!
And just for fun, here are some pictures of my mom and I over the years. Love you Mom!
