Welcome! My name is Heather Joy. My passion for being creative began earlier than I can remember. I love all things involved with home decor, vintage, fabric, and paper. Through blogging, I hope to inspire you to craft.
For those of you who follow me on twitter or like me on facebook, you heard the news that I have a new job! I've given my notice to Paper Source last week. My last day is the 17th and then I'm off to Alt on the 18th *insert happy dance here*. Paper Source welcomed me with open arms when I moved to Portland in July. I've met so many great people and have developed some amazing friendships. But, when this opportunity came my way, I couldn't pass it up! Collage is a local Portland craft/fine arts store.
Click here to check out their site and like them on facebook too! They offer loads of classes (there is almost one everyday!) and pretty much have an amazing assortment of goods for every type of crafter. One of the things I'm most excited about is that I'm going to learn a lot of new techniques and tricks too! First up, needle felting!
The process of felting is really simple. Roll the wool roving into a ball, then poke it gently and evenly. Always poke on the styrofoam mat, and never look away! The needles are sharp, you can see that I had to bandage my finger later on (nothing too bad).
After an hour of poking, the balls start to take shape. To connect the pieces, use a longer pin and poke wear the two pieces are to connect, this moves the fibers back and forth between the two.
In the first picture, I'm doing the detail work of adding small pieces: the nose, black for the eyes, and white for the beard. Introducing Suki! She is an amazing teacher and an amazing new boss! ;)
Finally, introducing Robert the Gnome! Make sure the roll the R the french way when you say it! ;)
