Silk Painting

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you've probably noticed that I can't turn away from a pretty pattern. Silk scarves have these in droves, so I unknowingly have started collecting them.  While I was at Alt last January (can it really be two months ago!), I had the opportunity to take a Fabric Design course. What it really turned out to be was learning the technique of Silk Painting. This was brand new to me, so I was really excited to learn a new skill. Since then I've been playing around with it more and have learned from my mistakes. In the next few weeks, I'll share a little DIY project around silk painting. But before that I wanted to share my first experience with silk painting (mistakes and all) and the other talented artists that took the class at Alt too.

In the end, everyone created amazing pieces. I especially love the feathers!
Stay tuned for a full DIY next week!

Flea Market Finds >> 14

This week, I only had the opportunity to go to one sale, but it was a great one! I'm still so excited about these finds, including my favorite one yet!
I'm still swooning over this beautiful fabric knitting needle case. I love the bright, bold colors and flowers  on this needle case. The big bonus was 30+ sets of needles, there is every size from US 19 - 0!  The big bonus it was only $12.50! I'm definitely not parting with this treasure. :)
There were also many pretty scarves and a couple pillowcases.  Fun patterns always catch my eye!
Once I saw this 1963 Simplicity Sewing Book, I had to have it! It's chock full of great sewing advice, and great vintage graphic design. I love the semi-circles on the cover, and they continue throughout the book.

This was by far the most favorite sale I've been to! Pop on over to my hubs blog to see what he found there too!

Happy Thrifting!

Flea Market Finds >> 12

Last Thursday, Chris and I headed out again to another estate sale. This one was right up my alley. Yes, there was a line of over 100 people, but it wasn't as competitve for specific peieces. In fact, everyone was really friendly! It was a huge three-story home, we were in the first wave of people to be let in and I headed straight upstairs. To my delight, I found a huge linen closet with some amazing vintage sheets! I just love these patterns! ;)

Underneath everything I found four of these Vera cloth napkins.
I'm excited to use some of these pillowcases and to cut into them and make another vintage sheet quilt
On our way home, we swung by our booth at Antique Alley, to drop off a few new items. However, every time I go in there, I always find something I can't live without:
Lately, I've been really drawn to vintage games. This one was too good to pass up! I think I've stumbled onto something new to collect.
Happy Thrifting!
